Preschool Ministries Coordinator

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:

The Preschool Ministries Coordinator, (PMC), is an adult church member who is employed by Metro East Baptist Church to orchestrate the children’s ministry, birth through pre-kindergarten. The person will relate directly to and work under the supervision of the Associate Pastor: Discipleship, and will work in concert with the pastoral staff and the other program ministry coordinators to assure a cooperative approach in reaching our church's mission of "loving God, loving one another, and going to the world." The person will oversee in the development and execution of a comprehensive program of Christian development and education of preschool age children.  The PMC will be assisted by the of the Preschool Ministry Team (PMT) which will include but not be limited to the Paid Childcare Coordinator and at least two at-large church members by embracing the seven core values of our church: Worship, Scripture, Fellowship, Disciple-Making, Mercy, Stewardship, and Evangelism as he/she fulfills the assigned tasks.

  

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

A passion for God coupled with a call to minister to birth through pre-kindergarten and their families. Experience in planning, organizing, promoting, and leading a variety of types of programs for the preschooler is necessary. Also needed is the ability to recruit, train, and supervise lay leaders to assist with the ministry to the children and their families.

  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in concert with the PMT to develop a comprehensive program of spiritual education that disciples Preschoolers, and works in concert with parents as the primary disciplers of their children.
  • Assist with the recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, supporting, and developing of  (mentor) volunteer leaders/teachers in cooperation with the Nominating Committee, the Staff and the PMT for the planning and conducting of the various programs identified  as necessary for a balanced healthy preschool ministry.
  • Make suggestions with the assistance of the PMT and the Associate Pastor: Discipleship in the selection and use of program curriculum, resources, materials, equipment, supplies, and space needs for the various preschool ministry areas and organizations such as SS, Body Life, etc.
  • Coordinate with the PMT to develop and administrate an annual budget to support the ministry to preschool age children and their families.    
  • Oversee the systematic and regular safety and cleanliness inspection of all space, toys, and equipment associated with the preschool area.
  • Work in concert with the PMT to survey the needs and consider realistically the areas of concern to be included in a ministry to preschool children. Advise the Associate Pastor: Discipleship of optimal ministry options.
  • Assist in the planning, organizing and overseeing of a ministry of visitation, outreach, and follow-up to preschoolers and their families.
  • Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and laws.
  • Perform all other related duties J as assigned by the Associate Pastor: Discipleship.

  

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet weekly with Assoc. Pastor: Discipleship and education staff for support, coordination, evaluation, and calendaring relating to the over-all preschool ministry.

 

  • Serve as a member of the Preschool Ministry Team and attend scheduled meetings.    

        

  • Represent the needs/goals of the preschool ministry to the monthly Church Council meeting.
  • Communicate the needs/goals of the preschool ministry to parents/guardians of preschool age children as needed. 
  • Assist in the planning promoting and conducting of special activities/events for preschoolers and their families.
  • With input from the PMT, guide the development and implementation of a Preschool Ministries Policies and Procedures Manual to assist in the provision of excellence in the areas of safety & security, health & hygiene, and general operations of the overall preschool ministry.  Keep parents/guardians, volunteer leaders and the church as a whole updated on all policies and procedures related to preschool ministry area.
  • Oversee the stocking of necessary educational supplies in preschool classroom areas.

  

SPECIFIC SUNDAY MORNING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make sure all rooms are clean, orderly and ready for Sunday School
  • Help host the Kid’s Harbor Welcome Center by signing in children and escorting visitors to their appropriate classrooms.
  • Check on status of all rooms after check in is complete.
  • Find coverage for any absent teachers. (Substitute if necessary)
  • Page/locate parents/guardian in the event of a problem (health, injury, excessive crying, etc.)
  • Assist with finding needed supplies for teachers.
  • Dispense and pick up rolls, check for completion, and turn in to the office.

  

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • The PMC is expected to work between 20-30 hours per week and will be paid bi-monthly.
  • In addition to her salary, she will also receive a conference allowance each year to assist her in her ongoing development as the PMC.

  • With the cooperation of the Associate Pastor: Discipleship, the PMC will develop a "Supervisory Covenant", which will, in conjunction with this job description, provide the framework necessary for the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of the job of the PMC as it relates to the total preschool ministry.
