Nathan Gunter- Senior pastor

Hi, I’m Nathan, and I’ve had the privilege of leading Metro East since March 2025. I believe that the calling to shepherd God’s people is one of the greatest responsibilities and joys that anyone can receive, and I am deeply grateful to serve alongside the pastors and staff of our church family here. As a pastor, I am committed to clear, expository preaching and teaching of the Bible, faithful prayer, and a mission of calling and equipping people everywhere to follow Jesus and grow to spiritual maturity as his disciples. I have served in Christian ministry for over 20 years – pastoring churches in Kansas and Missouri and serving as a missionary and seminary professor for 8 years in Africa.

I met my wife, Kim, when we were both students at Hannibal-LaGrange in Hannibal, MO. We have been married since 2006 and have one son, Ethan. Kim is passionate about teaching and discipling other women and global missions. She can usually be found jumping in to lend a hand anywhere that help is needed around the church.

I have earned theological degrees from Hannibal-LaGrange University (BA, Bible), Liberty University (MRE), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (EdD). Some of my interests outside of my family and ministry include: good coffee, Yankees baseball, world travel, golf, and my own, eclectic blend of music playlists.
